California's 100 Best

California is brimming with innovation in food. We are looking for food spots that inspire and create a memorable moment for their consumers. Placement on California's 100 Best Food Awards are entirely merit based - determined by a jury process as well as secret diners who visit the place, experience the food, rate it on a scorecard specifically curated for California's 100 Best Food awards.

Jury Process for California's 100 Best Food Awards

After restaurants are nominated for California's 100 Best Food Awards, secret jury members visit the nominated spot, experience the food, ambience, service, theme, menu, variety of food options and rate the restaurant on a secret scorecard. The rating includes end to end scoring from point of discovery and reservation to billing and post experience of dining. Restaurants that score above 900 out of 1000 make it to the list. The jury is kept secret to avoid nominated restaurants from creating a special experience for the jury.

HOW THE JURY WORKS

- None of the jury members have a personal stake in the restaurant they score and are specifically asked to sign the same while rating the scorecard.

- The jury members are also asked to ensure they have visiting the restaurant at least 4 months prior to the scoring process. If their visit was over 4 months, they are asked to make a secret visit again and rate the scorecard all over again.

- The jury members are not permitted to reveal they belong to the jury and are asked to strictly remain anonymous about their position.

- The restaurant or food spot shall be permanent and it cannot close till at least 3 months of the award taking place.

- The food establishment can be a food truck, restaurant, street stall, or any food establishment which is permanent in nature.

- The food establishment should exist within the state boundaries of California.

There is no specific criteria which the restaurant needs to meet to apply. There is no specific menu, cuisine or dish which needs to be served at the restaurant. The food establishment can does not need to operate for minimum number of years or win certain accolades before applying. This means every restaurant in California is eligible to be a part of the list.

HOW THE SCORECARD WORKS

- The scorecard carries 1000 points in total and the scoring is to be done by the secret jury member on parameters including the following

- Reservation experience if it is a sit down experience

- Walk in experience if it is a stall

- Taste of the food according to local flavour preferences

- Taste of the food based on global flavour preferences

- Uniqueness within the menu and dishes served

- Innovation

- Theme of the menu

- Ambience of the restaurant if relevant

- Locality of the spot if relevant

- Overall service experience and hospitality

- Billing experience

- Post dining experience and follow through if it is a sit down experience

- There is also an additional section for comments and scoring where the jury member can comment on a specific part of the experience from reservations to billing and add 100 points if they wish to. Generally the additional points are delivered for service or food innovation.

VOTING

After the jury scorecards are received, we will conduct a voting process for restaurants that receive over 900 points. The voting will be internal and comprises leaders of food associations, journalists, food critics, consultants, regular diners, taste-hunters from the World's 50 Best, globally recognised chefs outside California and other seasoned professionals in the food industry from California.

The voting process comprises over 1000 renowned people from California. To get selected for the final list, each restaurant must secure at least 40 votes. Each voter is allowed to vote for upto 20 restaurants.

EXTERNAL ADJUDICATION

The external adjudication of California's 100 Best Food Awards is conducted by a jury of parliamentarian assistants at the British Parliament.

Pegasus Events has been hosting awards at the parliament for the last 25 years and carries significant prestige as the UK Parliament event partner. Pegasus has hosted over 100+ events at the parliament.

Pegasus Global 2025 - California's 100 Best at the British Parliament

The Palace of Westminster is popularly called Houses of Parliament of the United Kingdom. There are two houses here - The House of Commons and the House of Lords. These are the two buildings that make the legislative arena of political life in the United Kingdom. The Palace of Westminster is also a Grade 1 listed building and a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. There have only ever been a few select people who have been invited to the United Kingdom Parliament, much like the White House, or an administrative building in any other country. Pegasus Global Awards is working with key members at the Parliament to boost access of entrepreneurial leaders, change makers and legacy organisations.

Please note - The award ceremony will also take place virtually in 2025. We understand not everyone can travel to England for the in person award ceremony and we aim to create the recognition for all selected restaurants virtually.
